Eileen O'Connor: I am a Christian (a Catholic) who was given the diagnosis of mesothelioma (a presently incurable cancer). I was advised to keep a spiritual journal about my illness. I was blessed to get into a clinical trial at Sloan in New York City and I may have somewhat of a reprieve before the illness really takes hold of me. I have read much about cancer and cancer victims. But in my readings, I have found little about a true faith in God and God's will. So, I am trying to use this blog to bring forward ways that I see my own journey and not simply as a journey into illness and death but as a journey towards knowing my Savior in a deeper way. I am a mother of four, a grandmother of eight, with a ninth on the way), a college professor who has been on sabbatical for part of this illness, and a person who is as worried and afraid as anyone notified about a close-in death. I am presently 67 years old; funny but I thought I would make it to my late 80's--truly, God only knows now. I hope to be honest with in the constraints of caring about the people in my life. I hope to speak mostly of my own growth and my own fears and my own hopes.
